This work is based on a critical historical event: the amendment of the Constitution law in 2018. By telling a fictional Canton family story, we discuss the profound influences that the state imposes upon people’s destinies.

Language and Food are two significant fulcrums of this play. On one side, the characters speak both Cantonese (their mother tongue) and Standard Mandarin (their lingua franca). which inspires the audience to reflect upon the political and historical factors influencing linguistic interaction. On the other side, the parallelism between processing food and governing people sheds light on the practice of Eco-theatre and Documentary-theatre from a Chinese perspective.

Till now, I have compiled a refined field survey report of about 86,946 Chinese characters for the play. I have also researched historical changes in Tsinghua University, the Food and culture of Canton, the construction of the modern Mandarin system, etc.
