This work is based on a critical historical event: the amendment of the Constitution law in 2018. By telling a fictional Canton family story, we discuss the profound influences that the state imposes upon people’s destinies.

Language and Food are two significant fulcrums of this play. On one side, the characters speak both Cantonese (their mother tongue) and Standard Mandarin (their lingua franca). which inspires the audience to reflect upon the political and historical factors influencing linguistic interaction. On the other side, the parallelism between processing food and governing people sheds light on the practice of Eco-theatre and Documentary-theatre from a Chinese perspective.

故事从一个广东家庭的饭后争吵开始，层层深入，逐步剖析了他们纵向的家族史和横向的权力结构，并讨论了历史、社会对个体命运的深刻影响。

这一作品由许多个“二重唱”组成。其中，语言、食物构成了《一岁三餐》最重要的两个个支点。表演将始终在这个家庭粤普混杂的对话中进行，与此同时，演员将一刻不停的处理食材，并与观众分享、品尝食物。我们亦在现场收集和放大家庭生活中制造的声音，为观众更具体而微的呈现烹饪中强烈的戏剧性：爆炒时瞬间释放的大量油烟，煲汤炖肉时持续不断地沸腾，以及由切菜切肉、添油加醋的动静所组成的“音乐”。另外，对于这个家庭早年生活的历史印记，也将由现场演奏及大量的声音采样给予维度上的拓宽。
